Written for the Illinois Music Educators Association District 1 Choir (2008) and chosen as an IMEA statewide audition piece for 2010-11. This arrangement of an original 12-bar blues by jazz singer and educator Tim Buchholz has everything you want in a straight-ahead medium swing. The catchy original lyric and melody will have you convinced you’ve always known this song.
Open section for scat solos; mostly-unison soli section with a double-time feel passage, and an opportunity for the rhythm section to “trade fours” between ensemble hits. An optional 4-page insert adds two choruses of difficult 4-part soli to feature your best singers. The octavo contains a written-out piano part which can function both for performance (eliminate the cued bass notes) and for rehearsal without a bassist. Rhythm section parts include, with an optional piano part with more complex voicings written out.
