Description
An SSATB arrangement of the classic ballad for advanced vocal jazz ensembles, based loosely on the recording by Carmen McRae and inspired by the writing style of Phil Mattson. (One bari/bass split appears at the end and may be omitted.)
A female soloist is featured at the beginning, during the middle of the 1st verse, and at the very end. Crunchy turns of harmony abound — lots of extended chords, #9 dissonances, and mid-verse key and texture shifting to keep your ears engaged. The piano solo after the first verse can be replaced with a vocal or instrumental solo. (A sample solo is written out for pianists who need it; chords are indicated.)
